BBC presenter Mike Bushell appears on the award-winning podcast Fuelling Around to discuss what it’s like working in sport, his love of rallying and whether electric cars are the future.
Bushell has been working as a broadcaster since 1990 when he joined BBC Radio Solent and is now one of the faces millions of people watch on BBC Breakfast whilst they get ready for work.
The 58-year-old sat down with Jason Plato and Dave Vitty to talk all things four-wheeled.
Mike Bushell on his love of rallying
During his chat with the boys, Bushell detailed his love of rallying and how he has been fortunate enough to be involved in the same rally as Richard Burns in Kenya.
“I was lucky enough to follow the great Richard Burns out on the safari rally in Kenya, which was amazing going through the bush, through the jungle and all these people rushing out trying to spot the cars and the animals sweeping across the road,” Bushell revealed.
“They have helicopters trying to sweep baboons and giraffes out of the way, and I just fell in love with it and being the co-driver, even though every time I’ve ever done it and tried to be the co-driver on stages, I’ve ended up throwing up after a couple.
“But once you’ve thrown up cause you’re reading the pace notes and your head’s bopping up and down and I can hardly see over the top. So once I’ve done a business in a paper bag then it goes, and you’re fine after that.
“I think the unpredictability and the teamwork needed in rallying and the fact of where in the world you are, I actually love it.”
